| I just bought the Deluxe WWII 1939 - 1945. I own 9 A + A games. 3 "original" Milton Bradley, and 3 Avalon Hill games, and 3 Xeno Games. I still don't have enough pieces for the game and all 8 empires. With up to 5 or 6 separate infantry units just for Germany (not even talking about armor, artillery, crusisers, etc.) -- I am having a hard time deciding what to paint so I can define the difference between units (I.E. light inf, regular inf, mechanized inf, paratroops, SS, etc.). I don't want to ruin my avalon hill games for play since I only have one of each. I don't mind painting up lots of MB pieces - but they don't match the Xeno pieces. My question is "Do you have any suggestions on how and what paint my pieces so there is not mass confusion?" Right now it boils down to for Germany I have 6 types of inf needed and only 3 different types of inf to make this happen. I would like to just paint some helmets but I can't make everyone the same color (I.E -- I could say all light infantry have white helmets -- the problem with this is what about France, China, and Italy? I have only Xeno games inf for them and their style does not match the MB style). I just need some suggestions so I don't have to buy 9 more A + A games (but I will if I have to -- I just bought 2 more on ebay today.) |

I'd agree about the ''painted helmet'' technique for similar KINDS so they can then become 'militia', 'regular', 'veteran', 'elite', etc.! You could even just paint a DOT on the back to conceal this further and make a 'color code scale' to denote the various styles you want. Those XENO ones are just the GERMAN's in various colors, while there are even additional COLORS of Infantry with the different Nations for the current games. Just buy THOSE 'Infantry' sprues as 'extras' from whomever has them instead of getting the entire 'Games'. You will get many, of the SAME pose or posture, and therein lies the 'problem' of which it would become ever more expensive for obvious reasons. If you were to BUY entire 'boxes' of actual Historically based Infantry, then we're talking in the $100s of hundreds of figures, as you don't usually get just one POSE, but many, and that is a few of them EACH! It is hoped that YOU and others will soon be able to obtain the 'desired' kinds that you want-and many more that you 'would' want!

Its much easier than this . I will post where you get all these goodies so you will have the best set possible. You only need to repaint all the German units from that dirty grey color with some nice field grey with a light gloss on them. Use Zenos tired pieces for minor German allies. Repaint the Green stuff with red , and repaint the Soviets with a earth brown color. The best way to quickly paint them is to get a box that is flat like the 4 pack of soda boxes at the supermarket/ liquor store and just paint while your shuffling the pieces like a cook does when hes got something in a frying pan. The process will go on for about 2 additional times and the entire job is done. Each time let the pieces dry a bit , and gently move them so they dont stick to the box and let dry untill you apply the second or third coat.
Goto michigan toy soldier.com and toy soldier review so see the 1/72 plastic figures. They are pretty cheap . Key thing is to look at the bases to make sure they are large enough to stand up during play and not tip over. Companys like Hat, Airfix are generally good buys. You can buy a box of 48 men for 5.99 and you get 10% off as a preferred customer. Ill post monday exactly what to buy . My experience is first rate and i have bought a lot of both crap and good figures. Again just forget Zeno pieces. You can buy the original molds from hasbro for 1.50 a tree while Frank will sell you junk for 5.95 with considerable plastic "flashing" to boot. |

| It isn't 'Frank's' anymore as it is a Canadian company now, and I appreciate the FACT that through THEM you can obtain additional SETS of 'pieces' to include some that ONLY they make, such as the COLOR coded I.C.s and A.A. guns, the ''Sub Pen'' piece, generic Destroyers, etc. They also have the ''Fortress America'' pieces SETS too, so they got THAT going for them! Find and use some of the Krylon 'Fusion' spray paints as they are formulated to be applied on 'plastics'-but ALWAYS pre-wash away moulding coatings on any metal, plastic, etc. sets before you PAINT! Just get a large enough PAN or POT or BOWL and fill with warm, soapy water and scrub with a toothbrush or such but don't get obsessed with this, just enough to get the job done. Allow for them to dry thoroughly and then paint them up! |

Hello and welcome to this forum..
I will try to come up with a good list and where you can buy all the pieces. I dont advise buying Zeno or Imp games (quality is horrible and plastic has flashing that has to be cut, while the plastics are of the soft side)
another problem is hasbro doesnt offer pieces anymore... So you have to basically look to ebay for additional plastic pieces, while
These people sell pieces, but only for the milton bradley version
http://www.gamepart.com/product/item/fly_101.html
for naval units use "Navwar 1/3000" or
http://www.ss-sms.com/ and
http://www.ss-sms.com/NAV3KVES.html
these chaps sell "axis and allies tank set" but they also sell many 1/285 range tanks and ships.
http://www.pfc-cinc.com/page/page/721915.htm
for planes use them:
http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/
look for Vapor Trails Aircraft
in 1/600 Scale Pewter
thats it for now... |

I'd like to point out that with the 'bits' of their XENO's "Sushi-Jalapeno WAR" Game, then the ones that I have are ALL varied from the originals, as to MAKE them an entire 'SET' in addition to the regular "F.A." kinds. That's what I'm going to be USING as 'bits' for that "Expansion Pack #1" by "Strafing Run Games", while not ALL of those are "represented" for 'this' with THAT! You'd even need another entire 'SET' of yet 'other' ones STILL "different", to make up the rest and complete this. Here's what you could expect in terms of the 'types' for the "F.A.X.P.#1" VARIANT:
"Heavy Bombers"
"Assault Helos"
"Tansport Mobile Units"
"Assault Hover Tanks"
"Paratroops"
"Laser Towers"
"Nukular Warclouds"
"NEW Partisan"
The REST:
"STEALTH Bombers"
"Transport Helos"
"Heavy Defense Hover-Tank"
"Anti-Air Mobile Units"
"Assault Infantry"
Yet OTHERS:
"THOR's 'Hammer' Anti-Laser"
"Desert Raiders 'Scorpions' Buggies(from 1 to 3 of these)"
"Mobile Missile/Rocket Artillery"
"Hovercraft Transports"
"Heavy Transport Helos"
"Aerial Fighters"
"Hydrofoil Naval Forces"
"Additional Partisan CARDs"
"NEW 'Invaders' CARDs"
Alright, I'll admit that it would take some scrounging around in order to provide ALL of these, while SOME haven't been fully 'created' as of yet. Those CARDs alone will be a major 'production' for this, and "Table Tactics" has plenty of their OWN 'makings' to give you plenty of these 'bits' for the time being. |

is 1/72nd the same size as 20mm? One of the links that is given only has 54mm or 20mm size pieces. The link is Toy Soldiers.
Thanks |

|
|
| Well, for 1/72nd or 1/76th SCALES, then these range from around 20mm up to 25mm with the 'average' being about 23mm. As for "mounted" kinds of these, then 15mm might be the ones to get, as then they will be slightly smaller while still a tad bigger than "regular" 'Troops'. I've managed to obtain some metal-cast "Turkish Carbine-armed Cavalry" for a "W.W.-I" game setting, and others can be found at "online Hobby" sites or even upon the "ebay" kinds. There are some that are in HARD 'plastic' while the majority of these are of the Soft kind. I've seen and gotten many a "model kit" sort of the HARD plastic ones, but you usually don't get many 'Troops' in those. You do have the means to "outfit" them with various weaponry and then just gluing these together, while painting them all UP is much easier. Check around for them where you can and Good Luck for this. |

Yes thats basically correct, however the true size of axis and allies pieces (infantry) is closer to 1/87 scale but that is similiar enough to work. 20 mm is just a small fraction larger than 1/87 scale.
