This game encapsulates many new concepts borne from the experience of extensive play testing. Our intention was to model and focus on the major aspects of the European War 1939-1945 with high emphasis on historical realism. The game features two scenarios to start, but additional scenarios covering 1943 and 1944 are planned to make for shorter games. Many people have requested a return to a D6 system and this has been installed. A D12 conversion system is also offered in the optional rules section for those who prefer that. This game and its companion project War in the Pacific 1941-1945 comprise the best possible system to convey the flavor of how these campaigns were fought. My original concept was to make the two games “linkable” but I wanted to focus on the particular aspects of what each struggle meant in a meaningful way, so a different system was necessary for naval combat in the Pacific war and a different system for land combat in the European conflict. Secondly, a global map would mean another general treatment that was already covered in our Deluxe Second World War 1939-1945. This follows why for example, the map does not cover the whole of Africa, because no major combat occurred in central or southern Africa and more importantly, German military victory did not depend on it either.

A major emphasis on the Soviet weather is built in the game and the Germans will have a hard time of it during the winter of 41 and 42. The new land combat model has many important aspects and now air superiority of contested skies is now outfitted with many new concepts. The unit mix has been reduced to only focus on only the basic units and make for a less complex game. Generals have an important position in the game along with specific methods of how you will employ them to fight battles. You are now able to “grow” you economy by investment of saved IP. The allocations and determination of Income bases has been reformulated and made easier to tabulate.
